More efforts to boost innovation in EU is needed

On 7 Feb 2012, the European Commission released a report saying that European Union enterprises must boost innovation as global competition becomes stronger (full report). On one hand the EU is not closing the persistent gap with the global innovation leader USA, on the other hand it is progressively chased by emerging economies, especially China. More efforts to boost innovation are needed. Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Finland are the innovation leaders. The Netherlands is one of the innovation followers with an above average performance(7th). The report also confirmes the importance of attracting top talents worldwide to achieve better framework conditions for innovation.

Tech-Trends Innovation 2012

According to the USA TODAY, global spending on Research and development (R&D) will continue to increase in the year of 2012. Asian will be the top by increasing R&D spending on innovation by 9%, leaving Europe (3.5 %) and U.S. (2.1%) behind. China, acting as the second largest contributor of global R&D, continues to grow whether measured in terms of funding or generation of intellectual capital.


New office

Holland Day in Zhejiang University

On Friday 16th December 2011 Neso China organized a half day event, the Holland Day with Shinyway International in Zhejiang University. The event aimed to promote the Netherlands, its educational system & institutions and companies among the students. Jacques D. van Vliet, Director Neso China opened the session by welcoming the students while Selano Li, Education Promotion officer of Neso China introduced the Dutch higher education system. Adrianna Sokal, Project Manager and Synthia Yin, Junior Project Manager of International Top Talent were invited to do a talk about ‘How to work for Dutch companies?’, they presented a comparison of Chinese and Dutch organizations, as well as the working styles of Dutch and Chinese managers. Liu Yang, China Representative of Groningen University also shared the life and study experience in the Netherlands. Students showed great interest in studying and living in the Netherlands and recognized the challenges of the new language and culture differences.

VCWI annual meeting at TU Eindhoven

On December 10, the Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers in the Netherlands VCWI organized their annual meeting and forum. From 12 candidates, 8th board members were elected in the morning session. ITT was present at this annual meeting. In the afternoon session a forum with theme “Rising China: Challenges and Opportunities for You” was held successfully. Speakers from FEI Company, Shell, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, Brainport Development, the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and International Top Talent were asked to give their perspective on this topic. The feedback of the attendees was very positive. Most of them are impressed on the debate among the invited speakers as well as the common conclusion: “A rising China is an opportunity embedded with challenges; openness, innovation and cooperation are the keys to reach a win-win situation”, VCWI reported. The annual meeting and forum has been reported in the following main stream Chinese news media inside and outside China such as: China News, China Daily and CQ News.


Talent innovation debate to create win-win situation

The 4th Bencham Innovation Platform debate about how to create a win-win situation in Sino-Dutch Innovation & Talent cooperation took place in Shanghai on Tuesday 6th December 2011. The honored Consul General of the Netherlands, Mr. Peter Potman opened the panel discussion. Experts from DSM, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Philips Research Asia, Fudan University, and International Top Talent shared different opinions in the debate. The best way to create the win-win situation is that two countries should get to know each other in a deeper level which requires more communication. The first screening of the VPRO Tegenlicht documentary of International Top Talent on the recruitment of Chinese top talents was also shown during the event. About 70 people in Bencham and International Top Talent’s network attended the event.

COSA bi-annual conference in The Hague

The Chinese Overseas-returned Scholars Association (COSA) organized the bi-annual conference at the World Forum Conference Centre on November 26 in The Hague – The Netherlands. The local host of this event was the Center for Chinese Professionals in the Netherlands (CCPN). Evelien Bijl (白爱琳) from ITT was one of the key note speakers addressing the topic ‘What is the strategy for talent development and for future R&D?’ Several Chinese media reported this symposium: Ao Qi Wang and the China News.
